You have the same kind of weapon and movement physics as Halo, similar map design, game modes, and even weapons, but every player has their very own portal gun. You can place down portals with the Q and E buttons and each button does one of two portals. You can't see through enemy portals or go through them, but you can shoot through them.
In regards to the Halo elements, you have the typical weapon spawns which means map control can be quite important. The weapons feel very similar to classic Halo with zooming pistols, rocket launchers, snipers, battle rifles, and assault rifles.
With the way the maps are designed, you can essentially build up momentum by chaining portals, jumps, and jetpack boosts and I can already see an insane skill curve for this game. I'm really interested to see how far the dedicated players can get if they master it.
It's quite hard to get your head around at first, but once you get used to the portal mechanics, you'll see the fun immediately. It is just an arena shooter, and for now, the game is in the early beta stages, but the team behind it are super passionate and It's clear that they are working hard to refine it. There is also a ranked mode they are working on, which could be great fun.
I've always been a fan of Halo and Splitgate Arena really just takes it to another level.
