Understanding consent: Key findings from the 2017 NCAS youth report These short films were created and funded by VicHealth and ANROWS in collaboration with R4Respect to help communicate the findings from the National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey, or the NCAS.

NCAS data tells us about people’s attitudes to violence against women and gender equality, what influences their attitudes, and if there has been a change in attitudes over time. The youth report presents key findings from the 2017 NCAS focusing on results for young Australians aged 16-24. Read the full report at

The NCAS research shows young people’s lack of understanding about sexual consent is concerning and can result in victim-blaming. This is particularly worrying given the rise of digital image sharing and dating apps. This video highlights the importance of consent in sexual relationships.

R4Respect was first started in part out of a reaction to the findings from the 2013 NCAS data, which showed that young people held problematic attitudes on violence against women.

We want to help young people to keep improving attitudes about gender equality and be the generation to end violence against women.

Violence can be prevented and it is up to all of us to play our part.
