A fight between two groups of learners at a school in Turffontein, Johannesburg, has left one pupil dead and two injured. The dead learner, aged 16, was stabbed outside Forest High School. Police are hunting for a Grade 11 learner in connection with the fatal stabbing. Two learners have been hospitalised.
It's believed the learners were from rival gangs.
The incident happened late this morning and resulted in some exams at the school being cancelled. Learners are being given emotional support.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says his department is in the process of strengthening the Schools Act to ensure problematic children aren't transferred to a different school after committing horrendous deeds.
