ANTHONY JOSHUA has built his image on clean eating and dedication in the gym but that was all unravelled on Saturday by a man addicted to Snickers bars. Mexico’s chubby Andy Ruiz Jr upset heavyweight boxing’s established order when he stopped world champion Joshua in the seventh round at New York’s Madison Square Garden. And while Joshua had been hard at work in a month-long training camp in the build-up to the fight, Ruiz only needed to whip out his trusty Snickers before the first bell to power himself to victory. In fact, speaking ahead of the fight, Ruiz revealed that he is such a fan of the chocolatey treat that he is hoping to become the face of the brand. “I have my Snickers right here with me,” he said. “We are working on an endorsement deal, we are really close to getting this contract done.” “To tell you the truth since I was six years old my dad would always give me this Snickers before every fight and it gives me energy. “It gives me everything that I need to do the win. For sure I will be eating this when I fight Anthony Joshua.” The 25/1 underdog certainly cut a different figure to the chiselled Joshua as he sent him to the floor four times before the referee called it off. Legendary promoter Bob Arum once labelled him a “fat slob” and said no one respected his victories because he did not look the part. Ruiz has done little to counter that characterisation, adorning his Twitter profile with a huge image of a Snickers bar. At least the Mexican was only fuelled by chocolate for his historic night in New York. Maybe the Brit could save a lot of time and money if he replaced his gruelling training regime with a simple pre-fight treat.
