10 The Female Mammoth
So, it probably goes without saying that if you’re watching a video about things that have been found frozen in ice – then you probably won’t get too far into it before you see some kind of story about a wooly mammoth. For those who don’t know, wooly mammoths were about the size of a modern day elephant. They were dressed with two different types of hair – the outer layer that was about a foot long, then beneath that they had an undercoat of shorter hairs. Researchers are also not settled on the color of that hair, as the orange/brown hairs that we’re used to seeing in pictures and videos could be the result of their hair actually changing colors after it’s prolonged burial. Either way, check this out. This Siberian wooly mammoth, that weighed about 1 ton – was uncovered in 2010. According to researchers, estimate that this female was buried for almost 40,000 years!
9 Unknown Creature
So up next, there’s an overabundance of evidence out there over the last few hundred years that suggest there are species and subspecies of animals out there that we have no idea exist! New ones literally pop up every day, so it’s really not a big surprise when you find evidence of ancient life forms – that we have no idea about, either. Like this one. This was dug out of Antarctic ice back in 2014. Researches don’t really know what it is, but there’s record of it being compared to a creature that appears to be a one-eyed shrimp with eight legs. It’s only a few inches long and it has appendages that scientists say are also highly unusual. What do you think it could be?
8 Frozen Bird
So up next on today’s countdown we have something else frozen – not in ice necessarily, but rather on top of the ice. Check this out. This is a bald eagle, that mysteriously and unfortunately found himself stuck to Lake Michigan in February of 2019. But luckily for that tough bird on that cold day there were some locals around who couldn’t bear to see this endangered animal suffer longer than it had to. They ended up being able to get the eagle back to an animal clinic were they managed to completely revive it, before returning him to the wild just a few days later. There was real concern that the frozen ice that was on the bird’s feathers could’ve ultimately damaged the feathers, which would’ve made hunting for this large fowl increasingly difficult.
7 The House in New York
Moving things right along, up next we find ourselves in the state of New York where recently, after extremely low temperatures and high winds – something incredible happened to someone’s home. Now, when I say incredible – unfortunately for this home owner, it wasn’t incredible in a good way. low temperatures and high winds caused water to spray off a lake and encase this home in – get this – four feet of ice! Whoa – now do you know why I said it looked incredible! This is nuts! Can you imagine coming home from work – to this? If that was the case, what do you think your first thought would be?
