Imagine this situation: You go to a competition and you score a 80 points. The next week, you practice and rehearse hard to make some serious improvements so you can get a higher score next time. At the next competition, you are successful in having an even BETTER performance. Your group thinks that the performance is worth at least a 5 point jump.
Then the scores are announce and your score is: 79 points
Wait? What gives? Why did your group get a lower score? It's almost like your group got punished for performing better; how is this possible?
Actually, it's possible because there is no such thing as a perfect adjudication system and judges have a really hard job.
Make sure you watch the whole video and let me know what you think about my perspective on the judging situation in the Marching arts and why you might score lower than your previous competition, even though you performed better! Hopefully you'll feel better about the situation if you ever find yourself in this type of scenario!
