Australia tenor DONALD SMITH sings "ALL HAIL THOU DWELLING PURE AND LOWLY" (Salut! demeure chaste et pure) from FAUST by Charles Gounod. Here Donald sings a live concert version of the aria, with piano accompaniment.
The opera "Faust" was one of the first operas that Donald ever performed on stage prior to commencing his professional operatic career. He sung the role of Faust in Brisbane. Other operas in which Donald also performed the principal tenor role in his early years included 'Romeo and Juliet', Cavalleria Rusticana', 'The Bohemian Girl' and 'Maritana'. He performed these operas in the late 1940's and early 1950's.
