The Dangers Of Combat Sports That Many Don't See

I've sat on the footage of the Ramsey Dewey MMA fight against Wang Guan that resulted in a skull fracture. The reason I didn't release it until now is because I wanted to find a way to make it clear that we weren't celebrating that injury. We wanted to use this video to discuss why the sport of MMA is so barbaric (and weird, for lack of a better word) in nature. There's another side to this sport. A side that people forget about once the Pay Per View event ends or they leave the area. Ultimately, spectators are watching a sport where the excitement stems from people getting brain-damage. And when it's a fighter we know and care about, it adds to a sense of uncanniness when said fighter goes down. People only see the action and the glitz and glamour, but they don't see the human side to a fighter. These fighters are real people, and many are great people. They've also trained so hard. Although you go into the sport knowing there will probably be injury, you hope that there isn't. Rob and I felt our hearts sink when Cyborg lost to Nunes because we've both met Cyborg and know how awesome and nice a person she is in real life. It's the same feeling when watching this footage of Ramsey, knowing how awesome he is in real life. Rob and I discuss some of those feelings in this talk. While Fight Commentary Breakdowns loves to watch training footage, actual MMA matches are kind of hard to watch (especially the ones that involve KOs or injury).
