Some of the Most Beautiful Unicellulars

Hello everyone! I am posting a combination of short videos that shows the different species of the single-celled beauties in the genus Phacus. Diversity of Phacus will amaze you also they are one of the prettiest things you can see under the microscope. According to the Wikipedia there are 564 species of Phacus and in my opinion all of them are captivatingly beautiful! They are commonly found in freshwater habitats, they are photosynthetic organisms so they produce their own food from the sunlight just like the plants. Can you see the red dot on the cells? It is something called the eyespot, Phacus species use this eyespot to detect the light source and swim towards it so they can use the light more effectively for the photosynthesis. Although they primarily receive their nutrients through photosynthesis, they are also capable of feeding on certain kinds of algae and bacteria using a feeding apparatus located on their underside. They have a whip-like structure called flagellum, which makes the cells motile and swim around. I am a big fan of the Renaissance art, when I look at a painting from Botticelli or something from Michelangelo I get this feeling that I cannot describe easily, well call me a lunatic but I often get the same feeling when I look through a microscope. Thank you for reading and watching.
