When Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed charge in 2014, he called on these institutions to work together for national transformation. Over the last four and a half years, one of his focus areas has been to enable the use of science to fuel development.
With this view, the government has taken multiple initiatives to link technology and science with the life of a common man. Today, India ranks 6th in scientific publications and 10th for patents. The number of patent applications filed by the Indian scientists and inventors increased to 47,857 in 2018.
